What is HIFU?
HIFU, also known as high intensity focused ultrasound, targets and lifts the superficial muscular aponeurotic system (SMAS) layer in the skin.
HIFU is a safe, non-surgical treatment that uses the body’s own regenerative response to gradually lift the skin over targeted areas such as the face and neck. HIFU helps in fat remodeling, targeting difficult to treat areas such as the double chin and helps with facial contouring to achieve the V-shaped face.
What is SMAS Layer?
The superficial muscular aponeurotic system (SMAS) layer is a layer of tissue deep within the skin. It is one of the most important support structures for the face.
With age, the SMAS layer loses its elasticity. This results in sagging skin, jowls and deepening of the nasolabial folds. It is this exact SMAS layer that a surgical face lift would target in order to create lifting of the face. Manipulation of this layer lifts and rejuvenates, thereby reducing signs of ageing.
Are there any side effects?

How is it done?
A layer of gel is first applied to the skin. The Ultraformer III HIFU hand piece is then placed over the area of skin identified for treatment. There are no needles involved and the skin barrier is not breached in this process.
Common areas to be treated include the face and neck. The treatment will take approximately 45-60 minutes to complete.
After treatment, patients can immediately resume their daily activities as this procedure is associated with zero downtime. Usual skin care and make up products can be applied immediately post Ultraformer III HIFU treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
Typically only one session is needed. This however, depends on the degree of skin laxity and one’s biological collagen response to the treatment. Hence, some patients may benefit from additional sessions.
How long will it last?
The Ultraformer III HIFU treatment stimulates collagen production to produce natural lifting results. How long the results last depend on each individual’s natural ageing process.
A touch up or maintenance session can be done once every 9 to 12 months. While the Ultraformer III HIFU face lift will not duplicate the results from a surgical face lift, it is still a viable alternative for patients who are not keen on surgery due to the downtime or surgical risks involved.
Results
